Palin lawyers-up

Amidst the budding strangeness surrounding Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to leave Alaska's governorship, comes a lawyerly broadside from her camp that attempts to silence those who say she's getting out before the feds swoop in.

Perhaps this retort is good, and maybe even necessary. However, the letter's last section doesn't help her cause:
These falsehoods abuse the right to free speech; continuing to publish these falsehoods of criminal activity is reckless, done without any regard for the truth, and is actionable.

Public officials rarely make friends or quell rumors when they threaten lawsuits (see Joe Morrissey and his libel suit against Style Weekly).
